Campania as protagonist at Ecomondo di Rimini for its commitment to protect the environment
11/11/2022 – If the success of Regione Campania’s environmental policies could be measured by participation in a public event outside the region, then it can be said that it was sensational. In fact, in a central arena of the Rimini Fair, packed with the attending public, the Vice President of the Campania Region, Fulvio Bonavitacola, took stock of seven years of regional policies to protect the environment that have led to an epochal turning point for a Region which, just ten years ago, represented a bankruptcy management model that culminated with the waste crisis in Naples and its province and which today, on the contrary, sees it as a partner of Ecomondo, and among the leading regions in Italy in various areas, starting with management of the waste cycle.
The occasion was the conference entitled “The Environment in Campania. Is it a real turning point? ”, that took place on Thursday, 10th November at the Ecomondo fair in Rimini, the main event in the field of green economy in Italy, now in its twenty-fifth edition.
The Santa-Lucia based Regional government not only acted to overturn the narrative of the last decade, but also overturned the relations between the national government and local authorities: it passed the season of government commissioners – which had not been able to resolve the existing critical issues and also had diseducated the local authorities to work by themselves for the care of the territory – and pushed the latter to approve the plans on the water cycle and the waste cycle.
To certify the virtuous process initiated by Campania, Edo Ronchi, President of the Foundation for Sustainable Development, who in his speech underlined the key interventions that make Campania a virtuous region that has gone from emergency to excellence.
“In the title of the conference we put the question mark about the turning point in Campania but we can also calmly remove it – underlines the Vice President Bonavitacola – because we have really brought the region to a level of care for the environment and the territory that was unthinkable only ten years ago. It was and is a hard and constant commitment that has radically changed the widespread idea of Campania. There is still a lot to do but we have started processes that will bring further benefits to continue to erase the ugliness and enhance the beauty ”.
The administrators of Campania companies operating in the energy and water and waste cycle management sectors also spoke at the conference at the Ecomondo fair in Rimini.
REgione Campania was at the Rimini event with an institutional stand curated by the POR Campania FSE 2014-2020. The European Social Fund has included the green economy among the issues that support the intervention for the new programming cycle 2021-2027.
